Wary spenders missing out on credit benefits

New research has revealed that many spenders are cautious of using credit in the current financial crisis, but may be missing out on benefits as a result.

A third of those questioned by MoneySupermarket.com said they are less likely to use credit now than before the financial crisis, which could mean they are missing out on cashback and interest free offers as a result.

However, for ten per cent of people, credit is proving to be invaluable as they struggle to cope financially - with 17 per cent saying it protects their savings.

Kevin Mountford, head of banking at MoneySupermarket.com said this approach to personal finance has both its good and bad points.

"It is encouraging that as a nation we are showing a more restraint when it comes to taking on new borrowing. However, by avoiding credit completely many consumers are missing out on the added benefits that credit can bring," he explained.
