The rise of the 'chadult'

A study has outlined a new demographic of people in Britain: 'Chadults'.

LV='s Cost of a Chadult report reveals that nine per cent of grown-up children (over the age of 21) in the UK are receiving financial support from their parents, over of third of whom still live at home.

The parents who are supporting their children do not expect them to become financially independent until the age of 38, during which time they will have spent an average of £37,848 looking after them.

Mark Jones, LV= head of protection, believes that the current economic situation will result in this demographic growing in size and in order to prepare for this level of dependence, parents should find a financial adviser.

"Discussing their financial situation with a professional adviser and looking at all the options available … making sure policies are put in trust for children where appropriate and having an up-to-date will in place, can provide invaluable financial security for families," he explained.
