Prepaid cards 'effective for holiday spending'

Those looking to make the most of their money while away on holiday should consider making use of a prepaid card, it has been suggested.

Doing so, moneysupermarket.com reports, can allow holidaymakers to take advantage of "great foreign exchange rates" as well being able to budget their spending effectively.

Indeed, research by the firm reveals that selecting a competitive prepaid card could save travellers an additional £20 for every $500 or €500 they spend.

Peter Harrison, head of travel money for the price comparison website, states: "By taking the time to shop around before you go and deciding which prepaid card suits your needs best, you can save a bundle on your holiday spending money."

However, he claims that there are a number of prepaid cards on the market which implement application charges and usage fees.

Meanwhile, Mark Bowerman, public relations manager for the UK Cards Association, claimed that paying for goods using plastic "is convenient" and can offer holidaymakers peace of mind.
