More mortgages on offer to first-time buyers, study reveals

Those looking to take their initial steps on the property ladder could find purchasing a home is an easier process.

In figures released by moneysupermarket.com, it was revealed that a total of 1,354 mortgage products are currently available for first-time buyers.

Not only does such a figure represent an increase from the 1,289 that were on offer on November 2nd, it is also the highest number of deals accessible to such consumers since early May.

Overall, there are some 2,466 mortgage deals currently on the market.

"If lenders continue to give a helping hand to first-time borrowers we could see a significant improvement in the housing market," Hannah-Mercedes Skenfield, mortgages channel manager for the price comparison site, states.

Such figures come as recent research from Moneyfacts.co.uk revealed that the number of two-year fixed-rate mortgage deals has risen 38 per cent between April and December.
