Majority of firms not offering financial advice, study finds

A majority of companies in the UK are failing to offer their employees financial support or advice.

That is according to the summer 2012 Employee Outlook focus from the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD).

The survey of more than 2,000 workers revealed 73 per cent experienced no form of financial advice or support to help them manage their money more efficiently.

That is despite the fact 59 per cent of employees are going through some level of financial struggles.

Dr Ros Altmann, director general of Saga, called on UK companies to do more to help their workers manage their finances.

She said: “Many people have no idea about financial planning and investment.

“People need to be equipped with the information and skills to make informed decisions for themselves.”

The study findings showed 27 per cent of workers are worried they are not saving enough, while 53 per cent raised concern about their financial planning for retirement.
