Britons 'look to cut back on entertainment without missing out'

Taking steps to stay at home rather than going out is saving Britons a significant amount of money, new research indicates.

Figures from Abbey Saving reveal that some 57 per cent of paid-for entertainment is now consumed in the home.

Dubbed 'in-tertainment', the firm states that opting for the likes of dinner parties, DVD rentals and takeaways instead of going to the cinema, restaurants and pubs saved Britons a total of £3.9 billion over the course of September.

Reza Attar-Zadeh, director of savings and investments, states: "The recession has made people far savvier when it comes to saving money and millions of us have worked out that in-tertaining is a great way to cut back without missing out."

Such comments follow research by Friends Provident revealing that over one-third (35 per cent) of people are going out less frequently and will often look to socialise at home.
